AFCON PAMOJA 2027 will be the first edition hosted by three countries; pamoja means “together” in Swahili.
Dates, hosts and format
The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 runs from 19 June to 17 July 2027. Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are co-hosting the finals, the first AFCON staged across three countries. CAF says the tournament will return to East Africa for the first time since Ethiopia hosted in 1976.
The final tournament will feature 24 national teams. The three co-hosts are automatically qualified; the remaining places are being decided through CAF’s qualifying campaign. Pamoja means “together” in Swahili, a fitting name for an edition shared across the region.
What makes this edition different
AFCON is one of the continent’s biggest football occasions, and 2027 adds a cross-border dimension. Supporters may follow a team from one host country to another, with each matchday bringing a different city and local football culture. CAF has projected more than 1.5 million fans across the three hosts; that is a forecast, not a confirmed attendance figure.
As of 12 October 2026, CAF had confirmed the dates and co-hosts but had not yet named the country for the opening match or final in its dates announcement. Check new CAF notices for the finals schedule, venues and ticket arrangements before making a fixed itinerary.
AFCON’s 24-team finals begin with group matches before the knockout rounds. The fixture list will show whether following one team means staying in a single country or crossing a border; that detail matters here more than in a single-host tournament. Once the schedule is published, group your matches by city and avoid putting a long transfer on the morning of a game.
Planning a trip to East Africa
Wait for the fixture list before setting your route. Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Kampala are major gateways, but they are not a substitute for confirmed match venues. Choose accommodation around the games you plan to attend, and leave time between matches if your route crosses a national border.
Entry rules and border procedures differ between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Check each government’s current travel advice and requirements for your passport. Compare cancellation terms for flights and hotels until your match locations are settled. Buy tickets only through links published by CAF or the local organisers.
Follow official updates
