Dates and announced program

AFRIMA’s main events run across six dates, from Tuesday 18 May through Sunday 23 May 2027. The grand awards ceremony closes the Lagos program on 23 May, after the AFRIMA Diamond Showcase opens it. The six dates define the published window; AFRIMA has not shared a day-by-day schedule.

AFRIMA’s 7 October 2026 announcement (opens in a new tab) lists public voting from 21 February to 21 May 2027 and an entry deadline of 10 January 2027 for music professionals. Voting overlaps the Lagos program only on its final day; it does not give a schedule of performances.

What the awards cover

AFRIMA is organized by its International Executive Committee in partnership with the African Union. The 2027 edition is the tenth. AFRIMA lists 40 categories for the 2027 awards, with regional and continental awards spanning Africa’s five regions and a range of music genres. Its official category announcement (opens in a new tab) outlines the awards and their entry process.

The awards recognize work by artists as well as songwriters, producers, video directors, DJs, dancers and choreographers, record labels, and music executives. Entry rules apply to those music professionals.

Plan a Lagos visit around confirmed details

Lagos is the confirmed host city, but the organizer’s 25 September 2026 calendar does not name a 2027 venue. It also does not give the schedule for individual nights or announce 2027 ticket prices and sales channels. Wait for those details before choosing a hotel by neighborhood or building a fixed plan around a particular venue. If you reserve accommodation earlier, review the cancellation terms.

For international arrivals, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) provides a Passenger Experience Hub (opens in a new tab) with support information for Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, including terminal help desks. Once AFRIMA publishes the venue, compare the airport transfer and hotel location against that address. Lagos is a large city, so the venue’s location will shape the practical route.

Visa requirements depend on your passport and reason for travel. The Nigeria Immigration Service visa guide (opens in a new tab) describes short-stay options and links to the official application portals. Check your own eligibility and entry requirements directly with Nigerian authorities before paying for a flight.

Check current travel advice and ticket updates

Travel guidance can change before May 2027. On 16 October 2026, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office lists travel warnings for specific Nigerian states, while the U.S. Department of State’s current advisory asks U.S. travelers to reconsider travel to Nigeria. The advice differs by nationality and may change, so read your government’s latest Nigeria travel advice (opens in a new tab) and U.S. advisory (opens in a new tab) as relevant to you. Check that your insurance covers the planned trip and any advice in force when you travel.

Use AFRIMA’s official site (opens in a new tab) for later venue, ticket and schedule notices. The announced dates and city are useful for planning, but the official ticket channel and access rules still need to be confirmed. Do not rely on a ticket page or reseller unless AFRIMA links to it for the 2027 edition.
